Question:
What are eight things that indicate that riding season is coming soon?
At the lunch before the International Motorcycle Show we all had a wonderful meal and great conversations. After lunch we all went to the show and dreamed of additions to our arsenals of riding and safety equipment. If anyone is looking for a slightly more traditional place for a gathering, I recommend Jax in Nord East Mpls. Food is great, service is excellent, and ambiance is delightful.
In this time between riding seasons, in addition to looking at equipment for the upcoming season, we should be looking for skill refreshers and improvements. There are a couple of upcoming items that will help, the Safety Conference February 27, 2010 and the MFA class March 7, 2010, (see below and the website for details). The Safety Seminar will include topics like: Group Riding, Seasoned Rider, Street Smarts, See and Be Seen, as well as time to meet and greet other riders interested in safety.
The MFA Class may include riders and co-riders from other chapters as well as Chapter O and includes skills critical in serious situations both riding and non riding.
Planning continues for the overnights scheduled for the 2010 season. The choices the chapter is considering are North Shore or the Ashland WI area. More discussion will occur at the Social on Feb 25, 2010 at Kelly’s 19th Hole.
There is also a dinner night planned for March 11, 2010 at Davanni’s off highway 10 in Coon Rapids.
Hope to see you all a couple times during March
Defensive Driving

Motorcycle rides this time of year should include the following considerations:
* Weather conditions are very important to check at this time of year. It could change and begin to snow fairly quickly, so if you go somewhere make sure that you have a safe place that you can put the bike just in case conditions deteriorate.
* You should be aware of how much sand or salt is on or around the routes that you are taking.
* Make sure that you have extra clothing with you so that you can add a layer if you are cold. If you have heated gear, take it with you so you can stop and put it on if needed.
* Reaction times are slower when you are cold.
Please remember that, if you are unsure of weather conditions, you should wait until the weather is better so that you can safely go on your ride.
